Anyone who’s a fan of Katie Couric Media knows how important cancer advocacy is to Katie. But if you find yourself forgetting just how passionate she is about the cause — and how, frankly, cool Katie can be — her most recent interview will remind you.

Katie appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen Wednesday night in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to promote the new season of her podcast Next Question (back on airwaves November 9th!), and she was faced with some pretty tough questions about her career, tabloid rumors, and media-world controversy. But who better to navigate tricky terrain than Katie Couric? She also spoke passionately about the importance of breast cancer screenings, especially for women with dense breasts, rattling off enough facts and stats to leave Andy Cohen in awe.

If you missed the show, you can find highlights below. If you’re just here for info on her hot pink suit, we see you: We have details on her outfit as well. Here are some of our favorite Q&As and tidbits from the show:

What battling breast cancer has taught her: “I feel grateful for every day, but also my treatment made me aware of the serious problems we have with access in this country and health disparities. Black women have a 40 percent higher mortality rate from breast cancer than white women and that’s simply unacceptable. It’s made me even more committed to reducing those disparities and really educating women, so they can be their best advocates.”

Best interview: “My most impactful interview was Sarah Palin.”

Best advice from a fellow anchor: “John Chancellor told me the camera is the world’s most sophisticated lie detector test.”

Her best TV segment ever: “Of course, my colonoscopy.

Best item she ever spent money on: “This Cartier ring, which I bought myself for Valentine’s Day [in 2013 after a breakup]. I went into the store and said, ‘I want to buy something for someone really really special: ME.’” [Laughs]

Katie Couric responds to the rumors that she would have been replacing Amy Robach: “There was no truth to that, that was some tabloid stuff. Honestly, you can’t believe what you read because there’s a lot of garbage out there. So there was zero truth to that. And I felt bad. I think anything who loses a job because of those kinds of behaviors, there’s something sad about it. But also I think it’s just a reminder that you have to be professional. What’s that saying? ‘Don’t dip your pen in the company ink’ — I think that’s good advice.”

Katie Couric responds to rumors that she’d join The View: “No that wasn’t true. I don’t think I’d do it. I think they do a great job but you have to really get in there and give your opinions and I’m not sure I feel wholly comfortable with that.”

Katie Couric didn’t know Matt Lauer was upset that she included their text exchange in her memoir: “I didn’t hear from him about that but I think it actually was really important to really chronicle the evolution of me processing what had happened. So, no I didn’t hear from him that he was upset. There were texts that I kept out that I thought were too personal but I thought the texts where I was reaching out to him were appropriate.”

Just a few of the famous people Katie has met: In a game, Cohen quizzed Katie and her fellow guest Melissa Ethridge on some of the most famous faces they’d met. Katie recalled meeting four members of the royal family, William, Harry, Charles, and Diana; many presidents; two Beatles, Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney; Pope Francis; and a few Housewives, including Bethenny Frankel, Camille Grammer, Kyle Richards, and The Countess (aka, Luann De Lesseps). Most impressively, she said she’s met quite a few politicians she qualifies as dictators, including Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Putin.

Oh, but most importantly, she’s never met any ghosts or aliens.

On the WWHL after-show, Cohen mentioned how many U.S. presidents Katie had interviewed, and asked which one she found most impressive. She replied, “The person I was most impressed by is the person who should have been president, Hillary Clinton.” (Which was greeted by a loud cheer from the audience.)
