Lately, I’ve been on a bit of a discovery streak. I’m talking about the little things that brighten your week: a pantry find that hits every taste bud, a pair of pants that convinces you maybe you can still pull off corduroy, and a couple of shows so gripping they stopped Molner from checking golf scores for a full hour.
So, in the interest of sharing the wealth, here’s my latest roundup of what’s delighting me, clothing me, and keeping me up way past a responsible bedtime. Think of it as my curated mix of comfort, spice, and suspense. Enjoy!
What I’m eating
Ghost PepperZ Hot ‘n’ Sweet Jelly (in Original and Jalapeno)
OK, you might think I’m weird with my snacking habits (after all, I’m the same person who enjoys an occasional peanut butter and bacon sandwich), but one of my current go-tos is rice crackers spread with Philadelphia cream cheese — not whipped though, just regular in a tub — and a dollop of hot pepper jelly on top. So when I was at the West Palm Beach Farmers Market a little while ago, I bought some jelly from a small business called Ghost PepperZ. I really like their flavors, especially original jalapeño and mango; the kick does not disappoint! I just ordered more to serve during the holidays. Try it, and let me know what you think!
What I’m wearing
Mid Rise Corduroy Flare Pants (Gap)
Chocolate brown is one of my favorite colors to wear during cold weather, and these corduroy pants are the perfect go-with-everything shade. I bought a similar pair at a small boutique, but these Gap ones look so good, I might have to get them for Carrie or Ellie, too. I think corduroys are a great way to avoid wearing jeans every day and elevate an outfit.
Stems tights (Brown and Black)
It’s always smart to refresh your closet with a new pair of tights at the beginning of winter. (By the end of each season, my tights are worn or have holes in them, so I like to gift myself fresh ones every year.) These tights from Stem are the perfect sheers — I got the brown and the black — and they look lovely with pretty much any outfit I can conjure up.
What I’m watching
The Beast in Me (Netflix)
I love Claire Danes’s edgy energy and I’m hooked on her Netflix show, The Beast in Me. It’s a razor-sharp psychological thriller in which Danes plays Aggie Wiggs — a grief-haunted writer stuck on her next book — and Matthew Rhys plays Nile Jarvis, an ultra-wealthy man with as many secrets as his house has square footage. Their tension crackles like a thunderstorm, the script is lean, the style is slick, and it’s a hyper-dramatic good time.
All Her Fault (Peacock)
I roped Molner into watching this show with me, and while the plot occasionally strains credulity, we could not look away. I’m especially proud to report that I predicted the big twist before it happened — Molner chalked it up to my “otherworldly attention to detail,” which I’m tempted to needle him about for the rest of our lives.
The show centers on a little boy who goes missing and the chaos that unfolds in the days afterward — secrets, suspicion, and a family coming apart at the seams. And can we talk about Jake Lacy? I almost feel bad for the guy: He’s such a talented actor that he keeps getting cast as the most unlikable men on television (please see: The White Lotus, season 1). Poor Jake… but also, he’s really, really good at it.
