Consider Katie an official member of Club Random.

Bill Maher wears many hats: You know him as a comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and TV host. But when he’s not working on his HBO political talk show, Real Time with Bill Maher, he’s also hosting his own podcast, “Club Random.” And Katie was a recent guest.

True to its name, the Club Random podcast is a space where Maher and his interviewees can let their guard down and chat about whatever subjects organically arise. There’s no overly scripted, rehearsed moments here; if you wanted to hear Katie get real, look no further than this fascinatingly raw conversation about everything from Trump to old-school media sexism.

The two discuss their mutual past — namely, Maher’s Today Show experience, which included an embarrassing yet hilarious hot mic moment from Katie. She also raved over Maher’s forthcoming book, What This Comedian Said Will Shock You, and says that we’re currently in the midst of a “Bill-aissance.”

Speaking on the ever-relevant topic of the state of the media, Katie laments how the current news landscape is so thoroughly fragmented — and that it all changed when Trump hit the scene. “The decorum is gone, and the basic decency has evaporated,” she says. But Katie also comments on newsrooms of decades past, and how many microaggressions women had to tolerate in the workplace back then. Plus, the two debate their own opposing opinions on political and social issues, including identity politics. It’s a must-watch/listen packed with hot takes, so set aside some time today for a deep dive.
