Our very own Katie Couric feels especially connected to the subscribers of our Wake-Up Call newsletter — so connected, in fact, that she wanted to personally help with some of their burning questions.

We asked our readers to write in with the big questions they’d like advice about, and today Katie’s responding to a popular question about her style. It’s no secret that we’re inspired by the outfits Katie wears to speaking events or parties, but we also look to her for daily looks. One of Katie’s resolutions this year is to wear more of the clothes in her closet, but she’ll always have go-to pieces. Here are her forever favorites.

Hi Katie,

Shallow perhaps, but I (and I bet many of your readers) would love to hear how you shop and organize your wardrobe as your outfits are always top-notch. It takes time! I’m guessing you have a stylist on speed dial for events, but what about day-to-day?

Hi Ann!

You’re so nice to say that because I’m kind of a hot mess! Did you know we wear only 20 percent of the clothes in our closets? This year, one of my resolutions is to wear and enjoy more of my clothes. Day to day, when in doubt, I wear black. It’s probably because I live in NYC, but it’s also because it’s safe and slimming. I’ll often wear a nice pair of black pants (I really like Sara Campbell’s Sheri pants — they’re comfy and super flattering) and a simple black cashmere sweater. I’ve been wearing the heck out of my black semi-platform loafers because they give me some height — I’m 5’3” and shrinking — and again, are comfortable!

I got a few suits from Argent this season and they’re great — kind of like Garanimals for adults! I have a black one and a forest green one that I love. I think the key is to keep it simple!

Honestly, most of the time I’m in leggings (Alo’s bell-bottom leggings with snaps on the sides are my new obsession) and a comfy sweatshirt (I live in Spanx and Line in the Sand sweatshirts because they’re so soft!) and I’m definitely not Instagram ready.  If you opt for comfort over fashion, you and I have a lot in common!
