Bobbi Brown’s Skincare Tips, Products, and Routines
How do you keep your pores unclogged during the sticky summer months?
Although it might seem counterintuitive, it’s important to keep the skin hydrated during the summer as the sun and the pool are all very drying. To keep your skin from getting too oily, use a lighter moisturizer than you do in winter. Also, don’t ever skimp on sunscreen — even on cloudy, humid days. After you’ve been out all day, just be sure to wash your face with a gentle cleanser to keep the pores clear.
What’s the best way to avoid or get rid of sunspots on your face?
For sunspots, I’d recommend seeing a dermatologist and asking if you’re a candidate for laser. I don’t have the patience to know if spot removers actually work, but I do know that lasers do.
How do you prevent makeup from aging you and emphasizing fine lines?
It’s really about the textures of makeup you choose and making sure you always prep your skin with moisturizer and eye cream so it’s hydrated and smooth. If your skin is well moisturized, your makeup will move easily on your skin and never crease or collect in your fine lines. No one looks good in pancake makeup.
Is there any supplement or home remedy you suggest for aging skin?
I’m a big believer that the better the food you put in your body, the better your skin looks. I see it in myself…when I eat well, I look and feel better. Even my eyes are clearer. I’m a total health fanatic — I believe in the power of exercise, hydration, and eating lots of plants. Every day, I make a jam-packed smoothie to get it all in — chia seeds for healthy fats, EVOLUTION_18 Energizing Chocolate for protein, superfoods, and collagen. Collagen has been such a game-changer for my skin.
I’m starting to develop deep, dark bags under my eyes that seem to always be there no matter how tired I am! What’s the best way to avoid these or cover them up?
Dark circles are either hereditary or lifestyle-related. First, check how you feel— do you need more water or sleep? If it’s hereditary, which a lot of the time it is, then make sure you use a great hydrating eye cream and learn to properly cover up the dark circles. First, start with a pinky or peach-toned corrector to brighten and lighten the area — use pink if you have lighter skin and peach if you’re darker. Then apply concealer that is a shade or two lighter than your skin tone.
Is there a good way to choose a concealer that will match your skin tone if you buy it online or can’t use a sample?
You don’t want a concealer that matches your skin tone. Instead, use one that’s a shade or two lighter to brighten the area and blend seamlessly into the skin. There are so many direct-to-consumer beauty brands on the market right now and many of them have great quizzes and other shade matching techniques to help you choose. At Jones Road, we have a shade matching quiz and offer the option for you to submit a selfie to a makeup artist who will help you match which shade of Face Pencils you should use as a concealer or to even out your skin tone. Make sure to check out what’s available on the specific brand’s website.
