Bright, saturated colors are going to be everywhere this fall, so we’ve picked out our favorite ‘fuchsia fedora,’ ‘Mykonos blue,’ and ‘fire whirl’ items to add to your wish list.
Oh, autumn…a time to break out all of your neutral black, brown, and gray cardigans and boots…right? Wrong! This season the fashion industry has thrown us a curveball, and it’s one we’re actually pretty excited about. The runways for fall have been filled with bright, saturated tones like “leprechaun,” which, as you probably already guessed, is a bright grass-green; “illuminating,” a sunny yellow; and “pale rosette,” a soft, baby pink. But there are three notable colors leading the pack on the runway: “fuchsia fedora” a bold hot pink; “Mykonos blue,” a saturated, almost cobalt blue; and “fire whirl,” a sexy fire engine red.
At first, we were a little bit wary of trying to figure out how to fit these bright, seemingly summery colors into our cold-weather wardrobes. Hot pink in the fall and winter almost seems blasphemous! But after doing a bit of shopping around, we found that there are some great staple items out there in these gorgeous colors that if worn correctly, will really elevate your fall wardrobe. The items we picked will add a sophisticated and fun pop of color to your outfit even as the temperatures drop.
We focused on staple items like shoes, simpler dresses, and sweaters, and we’ve included a range of prices from steals to splurges. Also, it’s pretty clear right out of the gate that shirt-dresses are going to be a big thing this season— maybe it’s because they’re the closest clothing item to pajamas that are socially acceptable to wear outside, so they’re perfect for all of us transitioning from “every day is pajama day” back to “business casual work attire.” We also included both warmer outfits like sweaters and jackets and some beautiful and versatile seasonal transition pieces. We hope you love them as much as we do — after a very dark year, we all deserve some more color in our lives!
Fuchsia Fedora
SPGBK Silicone Watch
This watch is everything. You could literally wear a potato sack and put this watch on, and you would look amazing. Pair it with a completely simple outfit (OK, maybe not a potato sack, but you know what we mean) and get ready to roll into your next meeting at style o’clock. Sorry, we had to.
Le Superbe The Champ Sweatshirt
This simple, cozy sweatshirt is one that’s just going to make you happy when you put it on. Whether you’re lounging around your house or boppin’ around the town, people will see you coming from a mile away.
J. Crew Classic Field Jacket
Oh hello there, cutest jacket we have ever seen. Where have you been all of our lives? We could totally picture Kate Middleton rocking this preppy, sophisticated yet fun little coat. And the best part is: it’s machine washable!
Jessica Simpson Hixtie Mules
If you’re a gal who likes to rock heels, these Jessica Simpson mules will add both some height and some color to your outfit. The closed toe is great for fall, and the upper strap will give you that extra bit of support when you’re walking. In true Jessica Simpson form they’re extremely affordable, and we can say from experience that even the highest heels in her line are always comfortable.
Ganni Software Jersey T-Shirt Dress
This dress is so darn cool we’re slightly intimidated by it. Personally we cannot think of a single person who wouldn’t look absolutely amazing in this dress, and the oversized style means that you can just throw it on with some sneakers and look like you just walked off the runway.
Levi’s Puffer Jacket
Why if it isn’t the puffer jacket of our dreams. If you’ve ever wanted to look like a hot ski bunny about to hit the slopes in 1987, then this is the coat for you. It’s warm, it’s fun, it’s bright, and it’s here to make sure you’re going to have a good time.
Free People Mixed-Knit Sweater
This is the type of cozy sweater that you’re going to want to wear seven days a week when it gets chilly out. The cable-knit pattern is quaint and classic, offering a perfect contrast to the bright color. It’s a perfect starter piece for anyone looking to brighten up their fall wardrobe.
Tod’s Gomma Slip-On Sneaker
These shoes are a bit on the pricier side, but they are built to last. Even though they’re technically sneakers, they’re sophisticated enough to wear with almost anything, and will keep your feet comfortable all day long.
Mykonos Blue
Tuckernuck Royal Blue Shirt Dress
How cute is this dress? It’s one of our absolute favorite transition pieces on this list. Wear it in the summer with sandals, or with tall boots and a little jacket as it starts to get cold out. We love a dress you can really get some bang for your buck from.
Kimber Sneakers
Sneakers are still very much in as the casual footwear of choice, and thank goodness for that. We love these ones because they have a bit of a Mr. Rogers feel to them, if Mr. Rogers lived in LA and worked at a food co-op.
Anthropologie V-neck Vest
If you’re a vest gal, then more power to you and your strong, naturally warm arms. If you’re in the market for a new vest, this sweater vest is very cool in a wonderfully nerdy-chic schoolgirl kind of way.
Asos Long Woven Scarf
If you’re not fully ready to commit to a full cobalt blue body suit yet, then a scarf is a great place to start. This one is not only super cozy, it’s shockingly cheap. Get it before it’s gone!
DVF Ruby Cotton Poplin & Chiffon Skirt
This skirt is probably our favorite item on this list. Yes, we admit it’s a bit of an aspirational item, but it’s like wearing a work of art. If you end up buying this and the matching top, let us know if you want to become friends who share clothes!
Puma Training Evoknit Leggings
Who says you can’t be fashionable when you’re working out (or, when you’re wearing your workout clothes to the grocery store)? These Puma leggings are great to wear to the gym or with a big cozy sweater or sweatshirt over them when you’re going for a more casual look.
Kendra Scott Huggie Earrings
You don’t just have to show off pops of color in your clothes — jewelry can be a great place to do it, too! These Kendra Scott earrings are subtle, sophisticated, and will go with practically anything in your wardrobe.
ATM Crepe Georgette Dress
This dress will, hands down, become your favorite piece of clothing. It’s breezy, it’s functional, and it’s beautiful…and it’s on sale. We would be remiss if we didn’t tell you that DVF makes a very similar one, but is twice the price.
Fire Whirl
C Wonder A-Line Tie-Waist Dress
We promised you we’d put some really good deals on this list, and this one just might be the cream of the bargain crop. This tie-waist dress is a gorgeous red and looks like you could have picked it up from a fancy boutique.
Tulle Maxi Skirt
Why should dresses get all the love! This pleated maxi-skirt from Anthropologie is the perfect skirt to help you twirl into fall. The subtle lining just begs to be paired with some flashy gold jewelry, and maybe a big thick brown leather belt.
Journee Tanzi Pump
Well aren’t these just the most precious little pumps we’ve ever seen. They’re red! They’re satin! They’ve got a big fun bow! They’re the perfect height for dancing! Wear them for the holidays, or for any day.
Puff Sleeve Sweater Coat
A good sweater coat is one of the most classic fall staples that there is, but we’re betting that most of you don’t have a fire engine red one hanging in your closet…yet. This one will keep you warm, is a cinch to throw on, and will add a fun pop of color to anything you wear underneath it.
Tenley Loafer
If you’re somewhere between a sneaker snob and a high-heel hottie, then allow us to introduce you to these loafers. They’ve got the teeniest little smidgen of lift and have great support, and they are the highest-rated red loafer we could find.
ASOS Design Wrap Top and Wide-Leg Pants
If you’re looking to put the “fire” in fire engine red, then this tie wrap top and matching wide-leg pant are for you. They are somehow absolutely smoldering, even though they hardly show any skin at all. Once you see how many heads you turn in this ensemble, you’re going to feel like the queen of confidence.
Anthropologie Cherry Faux-Leather Trench Coat
Well would you look at that, leather trench coats are a thing again. If Anthropologie says it’s ok, then we’re on board. If you’re going to commit to a leather trench coat, we say go big or go home— heaven forbid you end up in a black one and someone mistakes you for a character from The Matrix. All joking aside, this coat from Avec Les Fils has a distinctive French vibe to it, and those folks know their fashion.
Everlane Jersey Polo Dress
If we haven’t made it clear by now, we love a shirt dress. This one from Everlane reminds us of playing tennis at summer camp. The red is just muted enough that even though the style is a bit summery, you can easily wear it on a warm fall day.
Ulani Pointy Toe Bootie
Have you spent the past 21 years trying to figure out how to channel Britney Spears in the Oops I Did It Again video, but haven’t worked up the courage to go full catsuit? We feel you, and we have the answer to your problem: these red boots. We can’t promise you’ll look exactly like 18-year-old Britney, but at least your feet will.
