“Those tossed salads and scrambled eggs. They’re callin’ again.”

The doctor is in — again.

Nearly 20 years after the original show ended, Frasier is getting a reboot. That’s right: Everyone’s favorite therapist is back and, judging from the first trailer, just as pretentious as ever.

A lot has changed for Dr. Frasier Crane since 2004, when the sitcom wrapped after an 11-season run. For one, the sequel won’t be set in Seattle, but in Boston, where viewers were first introduced to the doc as a regular on Cheers. Frasier (played by none other than Kelsey Grammer) decides to move back to the East Coast to spend more time with his 30-something son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott). Much of the new series focuses on this somewhat strained father-son relationship, according to Entertainment Weekly.

“He’s our brave little soldier that continues on in life, finding new challenges and a new love and new people and a new city and stuff like that,” Grammer told PEOPLE last fall. Find out more about the sequel series below, including how to watch it for free and which cast members and characters are returning.

When does the Frasier reboot premiere?

The new series is set to premiere Oct. 12. Two episodes will drop on that day, with new episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays.

Where to watch the Frasier reboot

The new series is airing on streaming platform Paramount+. If you’re not a subscriber but tempted by this reboot, we have good news. CBS will broadcast a special airing of the first two episodes back to back on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 9:15 p.m. ET/PT. Testing the waters that way should help you decide whether you want to take the plunge. Or, if you can’t wait the extra few days, sign up now for Paramount+’s free weeklong trial.

The new Frasier trailer just dropped

If you’re looking for a taste of what’s to come, you can watch the trailer below. In it, we meet some of Fraiser’s new friends, see his new space, and witness why the saying “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” might be false in this scenario. Plus, you’ll hear a familiar tune that’s bound to recement itself in your head.

Who’s in the Frasier reboot cast and what characters are returning?

A new cast of characters is also introduced into the Frasier-verse. There’s Eve (Jess Salgueiro), Freddy’s girlfriend; David (Anders Keith), Frasier’s nephew; and Alan Cornwall (Nicholas Lyndhurst), an old friend who’s a professor at Harvard. Peri Gilpin, who you may remember as Roz, Frasier’s no-nonsense radio producer, will also return. However, much of the original cast won’t. David Hyde Pierce, who starred as Frasier’s equally pretentious brother Niles; Jane Leeves, who played Daphne; and John Mahoney, who won audiences over as Frasier’s father, are all absent.

Mahoney died of throat cancer in 2018, but according to James Burrows (the Cheers co-creator, who directed two episodes of this revival) the actor’s influence can be felt. He told Entertainment Weekly that “there’s a wonderful scene” at the end of the pilot that pays tribute to the late actor.

“It’s about two-and-a-half, three minutes without any laughs,” Burrows tells EW. You’ve got to be brave to do that.”

Grammer’s confident that Frasier-philes will find lots to love about the new show. He told The Independent in June: “There’s some new people on the show to really fall in love with and arguably, it may even be funnier.”

It’s safe to say, we’re ready for more “tossed salad and scrambled eggs.”
