What are your obsessions lately?

If you’re a dedicated Wake-Up Call reader, you know I love to tell you what I’m obsessed with lately, whether that’s an incredible pair of jeans, a can’t-miss recipe, or a TV show that’s just begging to be binged. This week, I’m writing from Austin, Texas, where I’m participating in The Texas Tribune Festival! I’ll share more about that next week but first, these are the fashion trends I’ll be trying this fall and the accidentally messy yet delicious recipe I tried my hand at this past week.

I’ve never fully understood Fashion Week — why are we looking at spring styles right as the temperatures start to dip and leaves start to fall? So I sat down (virtually) with Freya Drohan, style expert and The Daily Front Row’s fashion director, to get the scoop on which seasonal styles we should bring into our wardrobes right now, from ballet flats to baggy jeans and everything in between! Drohan also has the lowdown on how to achieve that tailored “Quiet Luxury” look everyone’s talking about these days.

Who I can’t get enough of: Stanley Tucci

Stanley Tucci has a new line of cookware with Williams Sonoma and Greenpan and it’s absolutely stunning. (But what else would we expect from the always-stylish Sauce Man?!) I went to his launch event this week and got a chance to eat some amazing food and grill Stanley about his kitchen dos and don’ts — including his favorite dish, the music he likes to listen to while cooking, and his favorite midnight snack. I can’t wait to get cookin’ with my new cookware. Thanks, Stanley!

What I’m eating (and cleaning up): Gazpacho

I had some delicious cherry tomatoes and cucumbers left over from my garden this week, so I decided to make Julia Moskin’s “Best Gazpacho” recipe from The New York Times to soak up the final flavors of summer. Other than a slight blender disaster (which you can watch below 😅), it was super easy to make and SO tasty. I ended up adding in more tomatoes and not straining them, because I like the tomato seeds. If you plan to make it this weekend, make sure the top is secure on your blender!

What I’m reading: Our longevity series!

Want to live a little longer? Our editors and writers (with the help of highly qualified experts like Dr. Peter Attia) are spilling all the secrets of longevity in our new series that’s been rolling out on our site this month. I’ve learned so much from it already — from what to eat to how to exercise to live the longest, healthiest life possible. But did you know that your social life can impact how you age, too? This week we’re discussing how communities and relationships affect aging, and it’ll inspire you to call all your friends for a catch-up.

Who I’m listening to: Dr. Becky Kennedy

Whether you have young babies, teenage kids, or an empty nest, every parent can learn a thing or two from clinical psychologist and renowned parenting whisperer Dr. Becky Kennedy. She’s the founder of Good Inside, and her most recent TED Talk is about tempers, which can run hot in every family. What I love about Dr. Kennedy’s approach is that her advice can apply to every type of relationship, not just the parent-child ones (even though that is her area of expertise): This TED Talk will help you navigate any fiery interaction. Need some more advice? I spoke to Dr. Kennedy about her “repair” parenting method.
