Another royal appears to be retreating from public view. Following the announcement that both King Charles and Kate Middleton would be taking a break from their royal duties while managing health issues, Queen Camilla will also reportedly take a step back — at least temporarily.

She’s been busy over the past month, stepping up in the absence of some key royals. Camilla has attended 13 official engagements over the past month and is reportedly in great need of a little R and R. According to the Sun, Camilla has taken a private plane and treated herself to a vacation. She’s expected to be back in action on March 11 at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey.

Over the past month, with King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, Kate Middleton still recovering from abdominal surgery, and Prince William skipping some events, it’s fallen to Camilla to hold the fort down. She recently led the royal family at a memorial service for King Constantine of Greece after the Prince of Wales reportedly pulled out at the eleventh hour.

“Although she was not expecting to find herself in the position of leading the family, the queen is absolutely prepared to do whatever needs to be done for the institution,” an unnamed source told the Sunday Times.

Another anonymous source told the tabloid that she’s also been “buoyed by the public’s reaction.”

They added: “She has found reserves of energy that even she didn’t think she had, and the estimation of her by those inside the palace has soared as she has put her shoulder to the wheel.”

Even still, everyone needs a breather every now and then — and Camilla’s got the rest of the royals to help pick up the slack. Princess Anne, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, are expected to host a spate of events this week.
