A lot has happened over the weekend — and we’re here to get you up to speed. First, we’ll look at what’s going down in the Windy City as Chicago braces for expanded immigration enforcement. Then, we’ll turn our attention to the ICE raid in Georgia where more than 300 South Korean workers were detained, and bring you the details from President Trump’s appearance at the U.S. Open.

Trump Re-Ups Threat to Send the National Guard to Chicago

Over the weekend, President Trump reiterated his promise to send National Guard troops to Chicago with a parody image from the 1979 Vietnam War movie, Apocalypse Now. Trump posted what appears to be an AI-generated illustration of himself as the film’s Lt. Col. Kilgore kneeling in front of the Chicago skyline.

“I love the smell of deportations in the morning,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Chicago about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR.”

In response, thousands marched throughout the city to protest, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker called Trump a “wannabe dictator.”

“This is not a joke. This is not normal,” Pritzker posted on X. “Donald Trump isn’t a strongman, he’s a scared man.”

Trump has repeatedly threatened to step up immigration enforcement in Chicago and to deploy the National Guard, as he’s done in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

On Sunday, White House border czar Tom Homan confirmed plans for federal immigration agents to head to Chicago and other sanctuary cities — which he called “problem areas — this week.

“You can expect action in most sanctuary cities across the country,” He told Jake Tapper on CNN’s State of the Union.

ICE Raid at Hyundai Plant

More than 300 Korean workers detained by federal agents last week will be released and flown back to South Korea, as part of a deal with the U.S.

Immigration officers arrested 475 workers, the majority of whom are South Korean nationals, during an ICE raid on a Hyundai factory in Bryan County, Georgia. On Sunday, a spokesperson for South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said that they’d held negotiations with Washington and that officials are planning to charter a flight to repatriate the auto workers.

The operation — the largest worksite enforcement raid during Trump’s second term — came during a tense period between the U.S. and South Korea, who’ve sparred over tariffs and investments in recent months. The arrests prompted South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lee Jaewoong to warn that the “economic activities of our companies investing in the U.S. and the rights and interests of our nationals must not be unfairly violated,” the Washington Post reports.

Trump Booed at U.S. Open

President Trump attended Sunday’s U.S. Open final in Flushing, Queens and was met with mostly boos by the crowd.

Ahead of the match, the United States Tennis Association asked broadcasters to censor any protests or reactions to Trump. But when the president was shown on video screens within Arthur Ashe Stadium, he received a loud round of boos — with some cheers mixed in, the New York Times reports.

The match between No. 1-ranked Jannik Sinner and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz was supposed to begin at 2 p.m. but was pushed back nearly an hour because of the enhanced security for Trump. When the match finally began, hundreds of people were still waiting to get inside the stadium.

Trump, a Queens native, used to frequently be seen at the star-studded event. The last time he made an appearance was at a quarterfinal between Venus and Serena Williams in 2015. He was running for his first term at the time and was booed then too.
