Her Feet Were Killing Her — But She Refused To Let Them Slow Her Down

How one small business owner found relief and kept her body going strong.

If you’ve ever attempted to cook a big meal for guests, you know there’s very little downtime involved. Between all the chopping, baking and boiling, spending an afternoon in the kitchen means committing to hours on your feet — and for many, foot pain that lasts well after the workday is over. If that sounds exhausting, imagine doing it all day, every day, for years. But for Lisa Elsis, that’s been a dream since she was four years old.

After decades moving from job to unfulfilling job, in 2019 — at age 66 — Elsis took a leap of faith and went back to school to become a pastry chef. Not only is she a great cook, she’s also got a great sense of humor: When she opened her own business, she called it Must Get Sconed.

While being in the kitchen is what Elsis describes as her “happy time,” there were two parts of her that weren’t so thrilled: her feet. “Making food can take upwards of 15 hours a day, and by hour 8, my feet were in so much pain,” she says. “Picking up 50 pounds of flour, running back and forth, standing, squatting, bending, scooping, putting everything away… your toes start to hurt, the balls of your feet hurt, it works up into your ankles, and it makes you crazy.”

But Elsis refused to let foot pain rob her of everything she’d worked so hard for. “I tried bandages, I would roll my feet over frozen water bottles, but nothing worked,” she says, “until I went to The Good Feet Store.”

The Good Feet Store offers a three-pair arch support system that caters to each customer’s personal needs and lifestyle and can be personally fitted for their footwear. The system includes three pairs of personalized arch supports, each of which serves a distinct purpose in helping realign your feet. The first pair of arch supports is the Strengtheners, which work the muscles of the foot to realign and strengthen them, reorienting you to the ideal foot position. Second are the Maintainers: once the Strengtheners have done their work, the Maintainers keep the feet in the correct position and provide you with all-day support. Finally come the Relaxers, designed to support you when your feet are resting (great for wearing inside your slippers around the house).

At The Good Feet Store, Elsis met Steve, a Good Feet Arch Support Specialist who helped her understand where her feet weren’t aligning properly, why her balance was off, and best of all, how The Good Feet Store’s 3-Step Arch Support System could get rid of her pain. After various questions and demonstrations to determine Elsis’s specific needs, Steve brought out the arch supports for her to try. “He popped them into my shoes, and my balance was back,” she says. “All of a sudden I felt like myself again.”

Now that she’s found a permanent solution to her foot pain, Elsis is diligent about using her personalized arch support system. From putting on her Maintainers for a 4 AM start in the kitchen to slipping on her Relaxers after 15 hours on her feet, Elsis has never felt better. “There’s no longer a voice in the back of my head saying My feet are killing me, I should take some aspirin, where’s the ice… As long as I wear my arch supports, my feet don’t ever hurt.”

Even if you’re not single-handedly running a baking business, The Good Feet Store’s personalized arch support system can help you live a pain-free life. For Elsis, they’ve been a game-changer: “How many 66-year-olds get a chance to build the dream they’ve had since they were four years old?” she asks. “No matter where you are in your life, if you have foot pain, this can alleviate it. It’s enabled me to continue doing what I love to do.” And that, of course, is keeping customers happily sconed.
