Rachel Brosnahan Talks Joan Rivers, the ‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,’ and Bingeing ‘Survivor’

Last night, I donned my PJs, had some wine, and chatted with Rachel Brosnahan on Instagram Live! Rachel plays ‘50s housewife turned ‘60s stand up comic Midge Maisel in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” — and keeps the Emmy she won for the role on the… toilet. Gotta love that humility.

In our interview, Rachel dished on the widespread fan rumor that her character is based on Joan Rivers… and then shared a touching story about Joan herself. The story starts a little like the set up for a joke — Joan Rivers walked backstage at a Broadway show… — but lands in the sweetest of ways.

Rachel also talked about her quarantine: She’s bingeing one of her favorites shows “Survivor” (I gave her a little dish on my date with Jeff Probst!)…and raising money for a great cause: Covenant House, which provides food, shelter, and housing to youth facing homelessness.
