Katie Talks To...

What to Expect in Trump’s Second Impeachment Trial

Former U.S. Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal breaks down the Trump impeachment trial

Former U.S. Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal spoke with Katie about President Trump’s second impeachment trial.

On Tuesday, the Senate rejected an attempt to derail former President Trump’s second impeachment trial, declaring it constitutional in a 56-44 vote. After four hours of arguments, six Republicans joined Democrats to agree that it is constitutional to try a former president.

Katie spoke with Neal about Trump’s lawyer’s performance in the trial. “It was atrocious beyond words,” he said. “I don’t think the president has good arguments at the end of the day… There was a real gap of presentation and logic and skill in execution. From top to bottom it was abysmal.”

Katie also spoke with Neal about why there are no conservative legal scholars coming to Trump’s side. “No one will touch this impeachment and the one reason is they just don’t trust Trump in the end,” Neal said. “He won’t pay the bills for one thing. If the trial goes south he’ll attack the lawyer. He’ll never take responsibility himself.”
