Today we’re featuring recs from my friend Al Roker! The co-host of NBC’s TODAY has a new book out July 28th — You Look So Much Better In Person: True Stories of Absurdity and Success. Take it away, Al…
What to Watch: Designated Survivor with Kiefer Sutherland, streaming on Netflix. It’s like 24 meets The West Wing. A very prescient drama. I love this show.
Another What to Watch: Cheers, streaming on Peacock. Talk about a palate cleanser and a pre-Zoom cocktail. Okay, it’s nothing edgy or groundbreaking. Great writing, impeccable timing and a terrific comedy ensemble. Still laugh out loud funny.
What to Read: Besides my book, Erik Larson’s The Splendid and The Vile. It is a portrait of Churchill and his leadership during the Nazi air raids during WWII in 1941. There are real parallels between then and now.
What to Listen to: Into America with Trymaine Lee. It’s a ground level look at real Americans from all walks of life dealing with everything we are all faced with during this inflection point in our country.
What to Follow: George Takei on Twitter. Who knew Mr. Sulu was so funny?
What to Cook: If you do nothing else during this time, master a good roast chicken — and the greatest roast chicken recipe is the late Judy Rodgers roast chicken recipe from the Zuni Cafe Cookbook. Your friends and family will thank you.
