Accessorizing might be the best part of putting an outfit together and getting dressed. You’ve already figured out what to wear that’ll make you feel comfy and confident (which we all know can be a challenge), and now you get to add some bells and whistles.
To some, adding those little details can be intimidating, I see it all the time working with my style clients. But it’s usually just because of lack of knowledge. If you know how to accessorize, it’s like decorating a cake. Don’t get me wrong, there’s no complex formula you have to memorize before you hit the accessories section. Just like getting dressed, accessorizing should be a fun way to express yourself. At the end of the day, rules are meant to be broken; if you know what you like and you feel good, you’re winning.
If you need a little direction, however, I have a few tips for picking out earrings that’ll help a novice accessorizer. The key is to find pieces that complement your face shape. Watch the videos below for more on how to find the right earrings for square, round, heart-shaped, oblong, and rectangular faces.
The right earrings for a square or round face shape
If your face is square or round, long, dangling earrings will let those perfect dimensions shine, while round or wide designs will match your face too much and throw it out of balance.
The right earrings for a heart-shaped face
If your forehead is wider than the chin, look for the opposite shape to create balance.
Oblong or rectangular
Go for wide, round pieces that extend sideways to add some different dimension to the area.
