Revlon’s Viral Hair Tool Is the Perfect Under $35 Gift

A salon-worthy blowout at this price? Yes, please.

I love showering. I’ve long held the belief that a boiling-hot shower is actually more enjoyable than the most luxurious bath. My deeply sacred shower space is equipped with loofahs of all sizes, a collection of conditioners, too many shampoo brushes, and a questionable amount of facial cleansers (stocking up has become a bit of a habit). I’m not alone either: The hashtag #everythingshower — referring to an ultra-detailed wash in which a bather uses all their products and tools — boasts over 8.6 million views on TikTok.

But there’s just one drawback to my showers: My naturally curly hair takes forever to dry. Once it does, I’m never satisfied with the results, where my once-indulgent wash ends with a head full of limp, flat, frizzy curls.

My newfound solution: a hot (pun intended) new tool that dries my hair in 15 minutes and leaves it with a near-professional blowout. If you haven’t met yet, allow me to introduce you to the now-famous Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer, which is currently on sale for over 50 percent off, making it an ideal, last-minute gift for the holidays.

What does the Revlon One Step Volumizer Plus do, exactly?

Colloquially known as a blow-dryer brush, Revlon’s device is shaped and functions as a round brush, except that it also blows hot air onto your hair. As a result, it dries and detangles your hair simultaneously. By combining the two functions, Revlon has taken the devastating arm aches out of the home blowout equation. Think of it as the cheat code to salon-worthy blowouts but without the struggle of learning how to traditionally style your hair by juggling a brush and a blow dryer (a skill I never quite nailed).

I’m also happy to report that the volumizer’s body is made of ceramic and titanium tourmaline, which not only reduces heat damage but gives that sleek and smooth finish we’re constantly chasing. And with multiple heat settings, you can easily control how much heat you use on your hair. You can also adjust the amount of volume or shape your blowout has, by turning the tool more or less often while you brush.

Save for an actual blow dryer (which typically leaves you with a frizzy poof of hair anyway), this brush will probably dry your hair faster than any tool you’ve ever tried. Seriously, I have textured hair that hates drying and even my locks somehow obey this volumizer’s instructions.

As you can see in the video below, it’s surprisingly easy to clean your volumizer, too. All you need to do is remove any excess hair, then use a simple solution of soap and water to clean between the bristles. This TikTok creator uses a toothbrush to clean hers, which makes things extra easy, and gives us an idea of what to do with old toothbrushes once they’ve passed their prime!

If all of that isn’t reason enough, read on for my account of how and why the Revlon tool saved my hair.

My review of the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer

I first heard of the tool on — you guessed it — TikTok. Interspersed between my FYP-suggested videos of “cowboy copper hair” transformations and likeminded everything showerers, I witnessed countless clips of content creators of various ages and hair textures showing off their blowouts created with their own Revlon One-Step. It was mind-blowingly easy for them to get these killer results — from sleek, shiny, and straight to luscious, loud waves — they said, as long as their hair was mostly dry and they used heat protectant. I was suspicious, but inspired.

Expecting a price tag to match the hype, I was relieved to learn that the tool costs an affordable and accessible $37. That’s drastically cheaper than most high-end blow dryers, which don’t have an innovative design that boosts volume and shine.

I ordered via Amazon and when it arrived, I practically jumped in the shower to wash my hair. Once my curls were sufficiently nourished, I waited for them to dry to about 80 percent (as recommended by TikTok’s hair savants), then grabbed my brand-new wand to get to work.

Upon first impression, I noticed that the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer is the size of a regular round brush — i.e. not too big. It can fit snugly under my sink without taking up much space at all. Like a good student, I over-prepared before it even arrived, watching countless TikTok tutorials, but by the time I started using it, I soon realized that it was not as intimidating as it seemed.

First, I applied heat protectant and sectioned my locks into manageable chunks. Once situated, I turned on the tool. It was only as loud as a typical blow dryer, so I had no noise complaints. According to my research, I’d need to use the same sweeping, curling motions that I normally would when attempting to blow out my hair at home. Only this time, I wouldn’t need to somehow hold up a separate blow dryer, too.

I wrapped a curl around the dryer brush and held my hair still for about 10 seconds, then I slowly brushed the curl out. I was shocked: A bone-dry, smooth, and bouncy lock of hair with plentiful volume gently fell from the tool. I’d never gotten results this good, so effortlessly. Within 15 minutes, I’d finished my whole head, an endeavor that typically requires 45 minutes.

Ever since I’ve gotten into the habit of using my Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer, my weekly wash day never ends in disappointment. As I mentioned, I do have to let my hair air-dry first (which generally means that I get to wear a face mask and watch an episode or two of 90 Day Fiance) — then I spend a few minutes styling with my volumizer for a bouncy, frizz-free head of hair. (But people with less-dense or straighter hair seem able to get similar results when they start drying immediately after a shower.) The only downside is that the time and money I saved from this investment left me with more time and money to shop for new facial cleansers and shampoos. [Adds to cart.]

CHI 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray

$16 (25% off)

You probably noticed that I repeatedly mentioned heat protectors above: Like a curling iron or flat iron, the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer does have the potential to leave your hair dry and damaged. I wouldn’t recommend using the tool unless your hair is covered in a protectant, like my beloved Chi thermal protection spray.

3 Pack of Microfiber Hair Towels

Since we’re talking damage, I’m also going to climb onto my soap box to remind you that terrycloth towels can rough up your hair. Luckily, there are a ton of microfiber hair towels on the market that are more gentle on wet locks, and some TikTokkers recommend using cotton T-shirts, too. For under 20 bucks, you can buy a multipack of towels that’ll protect your hair as soon as you step out of the shower.

If you’re into styling your hair, you might want to invest in some inexpensive sectioning clips. These aren’t required, but do they help organize your hair so you don’t over-dry or under-dry specific sections. You want all of your hair to have the same texture, after all.
