About Kyrgies
Named for their country of origin, Kyrgies’ house slippers are carefully handmade by members of a female-led art collective in Kyrgyzstan who earn a living wage and use traditional methods that have a low environmental impact. The wool comes from sheep that graze freely in the mountainous region and are sheared humanely once each year. Artisans process the wool without the use of chemicals, then mold and sew the thick, durable sheets of felt into shoes. Finally, Kyrgies’ artisans re-process any wool scraps for use as home insulation in order to avoid waste. Kyrgies is both Climate Neutral Certified and a member of 1% for the Planet; it also contributes to causes that align with its mission to care for both people and the environment, like One Tree Planted and International Rescue Services.

Why we love them
Kyrgies manage to dodge every common slipper complaint: They’re moisture-wicking, breathable and suitable for both summer and winter wear, and they’re a reasonable price, to boot. The secret lies in the premium materials and the weeks-long production process, which ensures that the shoes are durable and — blessedly — odor-resistant enough for years of daily wear. KCM’s Alissa says her Classic Wool Slippers have perfectly molded to her feet and are a huge help during chilly NYC winters. For something a little more supportive, go with the Molded Sole house shoes — or try the rubber-soled Walkabouts you can wear outside.
