Everyone occasionally craves a candy bar, but adults probably shouldn’t indulge in them as much as they did as kids: The high sugar content wreaks havoc on our bodies, and the overpowering sweetness rarely lives up to our flavor expectations. Looking for something that had the nostalgic flavor he craved, but with a more grown-up twist, Stu Davidoff worked with a team of chefs with Michelin-star experience to create Gigantic’s “sortasweet” candy bars. The snack-size bars combine carefully concocted vegan caramel, fair-trade dark chocolate, and a range of ingredients like nuts, coffee, and spices to deliver big flavor without boatloads of sugar, questionable ingredients, or artificial sweeteners. The result is a satisfying treat that’s vegan, gluten-free, and — most importantly — delicious.

Why we love them
Your average candy bar contains anywhere from 20 to 36 grams of sugar, aka the vast majority of the average adult’s recommended daily sugar intake. Gigantic’s bars, on the other hand, contain just 7 grams of sugar and actually taste like their names: Almond Horchata, Hazelnut Cafe, Salted Peanut, and Banana Pecan. While she likes all the flavors almost equally, KCM’s Ciara says her unexpected favorite is the Banana Pecan, which tastes like a fresh banana muffin — yes, really — and strikes just the right balance of rich flavor and sweetness. While each Gigantic bar is smaller than most full-size candy bars, they’re substantial enough to be a satisfying afternoon snack or an ideally portioned dessert.
