And his new documentary, Winning Is Everything, Stupid, which is out now.
You might know James Carville as the quick-witted, Cajun politico who helped Bill Clinton win the White House in 1992. Maybe you know him for his marriage to Republican strategist Mary Matalin, which makes for a fascinating union across the partisan divide. Or perhaps you’ve simply seen him on CNN more times than you can count.
No matter how you were introduced to Carville, he’s a fixture of modern political commentary, and he’s fascinating to talk to. He’s fascinating to watch, too, as you’ll see in his new documentary, Carville: Winning Is Everything, Stupid. (It’s named after “it’s the economy, stupid” — Carville’s famous quote emphasizing the importance of economic messaging in Clinton’s ’92 campaign.)
Katie recently sat down with Carville to pick his one-of-a-kind brain about today’s politics, the presidential race, and his own fascinating story. In the first part of their chat, they go deep on Carville’s family background, what he learned from his parents, and his fascinating experience working with the Clintons.

Katie talks with Carville about his advice for the Harris campaign, how he thinks Democrats should be handling misinformation from Republicans, the chatter about whether Harris is sufficiently connecting with voters of color (especially men), and much more.
