Here’s a list of nonprofits that could use your donations.
After the Taliban’s swift takeover of Afghanistan and the devastating earthquake in Haiti last week, you may be wondering what you can do to help. So were we. So, we’ve pulled together a list of charities currently accepting donations for their on-the-ground work with these communities who could desperately need support right now.
How to Help Women in Afghanistan
Amid concerns about how the Taliban’s advance will threaten women’s rights, we turned to the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security to recommend groups specifically supporting women at this time:
Women for Women International: This nonprofit helps female survivors of war and is collecting donations to help women displaced by the conflict.
Afghan Institute of Learning: This group has opened schools for girls and women throughout Afghanistan, and it remains committed to operating under the Taliban. They’re currently seeking funds to provide food and shelter to the growing number of refugees in the region.
How to Help Haitians
Nearly 2,000 people have been killed and nearly 10,000 injured by the powerful earthquake that struck Haiti over the weekend, leaving scores of homes and businesses destroyed. These organizations, highly rated by Charity Navigator, are among those helping the country get back on its feet.
UNICEF: The global humanitarian group is on the scene — and committed to staying there — to provide medical kits, shelter, clean water, and more.
Partners in Health: The largest non-governmental healthcare provider in the country is raising money for supplies and staff treating survivors.
Hope for Haiti: The organization is providing wound care for survivors and collecting supplies for those displaced by the earthquake.
