The New York governor is back in the hot seat.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo found himself in a firestorm Tuesday after an independent investigation concluded that he sexually harassed nearly a dozen women, and in doing so, violated state and federal laws.

Bombshell report concludes that Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women

A months-long investigation led by the New York attorney general found that Cuomo engaged in unwanted and inappropriate groping, kissing, hugging, and comments “that created a hostile work environment for women.” The inquiry also found that the governor’s office was vindictive and retaliated against a former employee who came forward with allegations, and reveals new details about how CNN anchor Chris Cuomo advised his brother on talking points and strategies in late February, as allegations mounted.

Renewed calls for Cuomo’s resignation

The report prompted widespread calls for Cuomo to resign, including from President Biden. The entire New York Congressional delegation also demanded that Cuomo step down, along with NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

New York State Senator Alessandra Biaggi, who has previously spoken to Katie about the governor’s “toxic” behavior, tells KCM that Biden wading into the debate over Cuomo’s future highlights the severity of the situation.

“The president’s call for the governor’s resignation shows just how concerning the findings of the attorney general’s report are, and it shows the urgency in which the governor must be removed from office,” Biaggi said. “It is in the best interest of New York State for the governor to heed the calls of many leaders across the country calling for his resignation.”

Cuomo disputes the findings

In a video statement shortly after the report’s release, Cuomo disputed its findings and refused to step down, saying, “The facts are much different than what has been portrayed.” He also showed a series of photos of himself kissing and touching family members, other politicians, and supporters. “I do it with everyone,” he said.

Next steps for Cuomo’s case

The Albany County district attorney announced Tuesday his office is carrying out an ongoing criminal investigation into Cuomo. The embattled governor is also separately facing an impeachment investigation in the New York state assembly over the allegations, as well as his handling of nursing homes during the pandemic.

On Wednesday, district attorneys in both Manhattan and Westchester announced they’re also conducting their own criminal investigations, and they’ve requested evidence that helped to build this report in order to aid their work.
