I’m Obsessed! Everything I’m Loving Lately

The movies, meals, and must-haves that are brightening my week.

You know how sometimes you get on a streak where everything you try — a new recipe, a random online purchase, a movie you almost skipped — turns out to be really good? That’s been me lately. Maybe it’s the cooler weather, maybe it’s luck, maybe it’s just my excellent taste (kidding… kind of). Either way, I’ve been on a roll.

From a Greek soup that might replace chicken noodle as my ultimate comfort food, to pants that make me feel like I’m in a 1970s rom-com, to a movie performance that genuinely floored me — these are the things that have me talking, cooking, and texting friends “you have to try this!” at odd hours.

What I’m making

Avgolemono soup: I’ve always loved this soup, and sometimes go out for Greek food just to get some. It’s fragrant, velvety, and so comforting as the weather turns cold. But most of all — it’s easy! For this recipe from The Mediterranean Dish, I made mine with orzo instead of rice, because — well, I just love orzo. And a rotisserie chicken made things even easier!

Amateur tip: If you keep any leftovers in the fridge, make sure you have an extra box of chicken stock on hand. This soup tends to thicken up as it cools, so it’ll need more liquid when you reheat. The recipe is right here — oh, and you’re welcome!

What I’m wearing

Wilfred Twirl Pleated Skirt from Aritzia: My assistant Alyssa was wearing this chic skirt, and I wanted to get it for myself, too! It’s comfortable, you can dress it up or down, and it’s super reasonably priced. In terms of creating an outfit, I love to wear it with ballet flats or boots and tights, so it can span multiple seasons.

Twill Tide Slim Straight Pant (in Midnight Shore Stripe) from Faherty: I guess I was channeling my inner Austin Powers — or my 9th-grade self from the ’70s — when I bought these pants, but I love the retro look! They’re fun when you want something other than jeans; I love wearing them with a rust-colored sweater and my barn jacket from Argent. Throw on a pair of suede boots and voilà: You’re ready for the weekend.

adidas Women’s Grand Court 2.0 Tennis Shoe: It’s always good to have a classic white sneaker in your closet. I love these all-white tennis shoes by Adidas, because I can just throw them on with a pair of jeans when I’m running out to do some errands — and I think they look polished and cute!

What I’m watching

Christy: I went to see this movie this week and was absolutely blown away by Sydney Sweeney’s performance. She’s amazing in this film, a biopic about Christy Martin, who became America’s most well-known female boxer in the 1990s.

I had forgotten I had interviewed the real boxer, Christy Martin at the TODAY Show in the ’90s. She’s remarkable, and it was fun to catch up with her at the screening. It’s tough to watch this movie because it deals with domestic violence and homophobia, but it’s worth it.

When I met Sydney after the screening, I asked if the role was legitimizing for her — after all, she elicits strong opinions from so many people — and she agreed wholeheartedly. (But I’m still processing the dress she wore to the Variety Power of Women event.) Her tremendous acting skills are on full display here, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets nominated for an Oscar.
