The Love Wellness founder shares what women should look for in supplements and multivitamins
Katie Couric Media: What’s your definition of ‘wellness’?
Lauren Bosworth: Wellness means to take care of yourself from the inside out. At Love Wellness, we have a saying that is “love yourself well”, which ultimately means finding peace with and within your own body. Wellness is not a trend, but a true shift in actually feeling good about feeling good, without shame or guilt.
What are three things people can do in the new year to improve their wellness?
My top three recommendations for improving your health in the new year are:
1) If you aren’t already, start taking a probiotic. Everything begins in your gut!
2) Get more sleep! Sleep is the ultimate form of self-care.
3) Utilize hydrotherapy! Whether it’s a daily steam shower or a long, hot bath, hydrotherapy helps to soothe and heal.
We’re gearing up for a long — and socially-distant — winter. How can people maintain their wellness and self care?
It’s so easy to get caught up in the guilty feeling of “Am I doing enough?”. Usually the new year is all about exercising more and working harder. This winter, in order to maintain your health and wellness, I encourage you to be gentle with yourself. Prioritize self-care, even if it’s just for a few minutes a day. Do things that make you happy, get outside when you can, and above all cut yourself some slack and know you’re doing your best.
You started Love Wellness in 2016 after realizing there was so much missing when it came to women’s wellness. What was your goal when you launched the company?
Love Wellness was born from a personal need when I was suffering from severe vitamin deficiencies. I was dealing with depression, anxiety, and infections. Simply put, I was not well and every time I would go to the drugstore I felt embarrassed due to the legacy brands in the personal care aisle. Nothing spoke to me from a messaging perspective nor an ingredient perspective.
My goal for Love Wellness was to create a brand that would inspire women everywhere to take back control of their health and wellness. I wanted to create clean, personal care products for women’s unique biology that not only worked, but also empowered the woman who was buying them.
Today we offer clean, body-positive products that range from multivitamins, fiber supplements, probiotics and digestive enzymes that optimize gut health, to personal cleansers, suppositories and lubricants that are made with women’s unique biology in mind.
What should women look for when buying supplements and multivitamins?
Using supplements and multivitamins with clean, high-quality ingredients is the first step to take.
At Love Wellness, that’s exactly what we do with our multivitamins (Daily Love, Baby Love, and Whole Love), and all of our products are formulated and backed by doctors, food scientists, and nutritionists. Additionally, It’s important to find multivitamins and supplements that contain the biologically active forms of vitamins that your body can absorb and use efficiently.
What vitamins are women most likely to be deficient in?
An estimated 20% of women have iron deficiency anemia. The most common reason for iron deficiency anemia in women is because of diet or blood loss due to heavy or irregular periods.
Women should also take Vitamin B5, B6, B12, and folate as they play an important role in hormonal health and overall well-being. Hormonal imbalances occur when there is too much or too little of a hormone. This can happen during all stages of life, including puberty, menstruation, and menopause. Even small imbalances can cause side effects throughout the body.
Lastly, many women are deficient in Vitamin D, so it’s essential to get these important vitamins and minerals from your multivitamins to prevent thin bones and injuries. With our multivitamins, we use the high-quality vitamin D3 that is easily absorbed by the gut compared to vitamin D2.
