In the entertainment world, it’s a plain truth that the Academy Awards are the pinnacle of awards season. The stars in attendance will be decked out in their best red carpet finery — and many of them will also deliver tear-jerking speeches. The must-watch ceremony also will likely come with its share of drama, both on and off screen.

This year, some of our favorite movies are competing for these top awards. A movie musical about a trans cartel boss leads with 13 nominations. A famous pop star nabs a nomination for her role in a fantastical blockbuster. An industry darling is noticed for his nuanced portrayal of folk hero Bob Dylan. And an unconventional Cinderella story about a sex worker and a Russian Oligarch is in the running for best picture.

When are the 2025 Oscars and how can you watch them?

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony will air live on Sunday, March 2, at 7 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast live on ABC; you can also stream the show on Hulu Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV, or FuboTV. Non-subscribers must purchase a streaming subscription, but keep in mind that many of these streamers offer free trials.

Who’s hosting the 2025 Oscars?

We’ll definitely be in for some laughs: Handling hosting duties this year is Conan O’Brien. The comedy legend was already making wisecracks when the Academy officially announced his selection: “America demanded it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars,” O’Brien said.
