You might be pleasantly surprised.
Some of Taylor Swift’s pals are finally setting the record straight about what they think of her budding relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Model and member of Swift’s squad Gigi Hadid voiced her full-fledged support of the couple in response to an Instagram post by gossip blogger Perez Hilton that alluded to Hadid and singer Selena Gomez not being fans of Swift’s new relationship with Kelce. “We are all over the moon for our girl. Period,” Hadid commented, while also adding a red heart on fire emoji. Model Cara Delevingne also chimed in, telling E! News that she’s “so, so happy” for her pal.
This comes as the whirlwind romance between Swift and Kelce heats up: Kelce flew all the way to Buenos Aires, Argentina to see Swift perform as part of the South American leg of her “Eras Tour.” (Meanwhile, some of us can barely get a man to text us back.) After one of her performances, she was seen running into his arms and kissing him in a move that melted even the iciest of hearts.
But her fans and onlookers can’t help but wonder what those closest think of this very public move, which marks a break from her previous and much more private six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn.
What do Taylor Swift’s friends think of Travis Kelce?
Before Hadid dispelled the rumors of a friendship rift, Us Weekly reported that the reason Hadid hadn’t been seen with Swift at the Chief’s games was because she didn’t approve of them dating. The magazine alleged she felt they were “doing too much, too soon.”
Similarly, Page Six cited an unnamed source claiming that Gomez was “concerned” that Swift was “moving too fast” with Kelce. (Gomez hasn’t publicly addressed the speculation.) But not all of the buzz surrounding their relationship has been bad: An anonymous insider told Us Weekly that Swift’s friends think the couple are “in love.” Similarly, Delevingne commented that “there’s definitely something very different about them.”
Whether their relationship is too soon remains to be seen, but you’ve got to admit that their love story could be one for the books. Swift and Kelce were first linked in September, just two months after he saw Swift perform for the first time in Kansas City and attempted to give her his phone number on a friendship bracelet. Swift winded up accepting Kelce’s invitation to see him and the Kansas City Chiefs play — and since then she’s attended three more NFL games. They even made a surprise appearance together on Saturday Night Live and have been spotted on several dates.
Have Swift’s other friends spoken out about her new romance?
Well, not exactly, but her longtime friend Abigail Anderson has given a subtle stamp of approval. In case her name doesn’t ring a bell, the pair go way back — high school to be exact. (Anderson was Swift’s inspiration for her 2008 hit “Fifteen.”)
Anderson liked a clip of the pop star on Instagram changing the lyrics to her hit song “Karma” in Kelce’s honor during a concert on Nov. 11. “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me,” Swift sang as opposed to the original lyrics, which are “Karma is the guy on the screen, coming straight home to me.” Kelce was in the audience at the time, standing next to her dad, who gave the tight end a high-five after Swift gave him the sweet shout-out.
While it’s unclear whether Anderson has spent time with the pair, Swift has introduced some of her squad, including Gomez, Sophie Turner, and Hadid, to the spouses of other NFL players, including Brittany Mahomes, who’s the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Us Weekly‘s source said they all got along “amazingly” and that Swift plans to get everyone together again soon.
What do those in Kelce’s inner circle have to say about Swift?
While not all of the rumors surrounding the duo have been true, the intense public interest in their romance has drawn some concern from some of Kelce’s family.
Philadelphia Eagles player Jason Kelce said even though he’s happy for his brother, he’s concerned about his safety amid the ongoing media frenzy. “There’s another end of it where it’s like: ‘Man, this is a lot,’” he told NBC Sports. “There’s paparazzi talking about him fuelling his car before the game today and I’m like: ‘Is that really necessary information to share?’” It’s worth noting that Jason has experienced a fair amount of fame himself — in addition to being the subject of the Amazon documentary, Kelce, he also made PEOPLE Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” list.
Kelce’s mom, Donna Kelce, has also taken a more measured approach to their romance, telling the TODAY show that it’s still “’too new” for her to talk about it. And when asked what hanging out with Swift was like, she returned a coy smile and said, “It was OK.” But some can’t help but speak out — his dad, Ed Kelce, raved about Swift, calling her a “very, very sweet, very charming, down-to-earth young woman.”
It’s safe to say this attention surrounding Swift and Kelce isn’t going away anytime soon.
