The 2021 Academy Awards was a night of surprises, snubs, and history-making celebrations. Chloé Zhao took home the night’s biggest prize for Best Director for Nomadland, becoming the first woman of color to win for directing. Zhao also scored the coveted Best Picture prize, and the film’s Frances McDormand took home the award for Best Actress, making Nomadland the 2021 Oscars lead. In a surprising, and somewhat anti-climatic twist, Anthony Hopkins of The Father took home Best Actor, a confusing upset for critics and fans who anticipated Chadwick Boseman to posthumously receive the award. See our full list of the 2021 Academy Award winners below.
