The 2022 Golden Globes Nominees

Well, that was awkward. 

We’re referring to the Golden Globes nominations announcement that took place Monday morning. In years past, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association would enlist some award-winning actors and actresses to announce that year’s Golden Globes nominations (last year, Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson announced the nominees). This year, they were announced by HFPA president Helen Hoehne, along with Snoop Dogg, who provided a sort of random yet delightful cameo. We’re guessing not many people wanted this gig.

The HFPA has been drowning in hot water since its lack of diversity and unethical practices made news earlier this year. The controversy led NBC to cancel 2022’s telecast, and top studios and stars pledged to abandon the group unless it instituted reforms.

Hoehne spoke of reforms in today’s announcement, but it was probably too little too late for this year’s event (and possibly for the Golden Globes as we know them). Alas, movie and TV lovers everywhere were still curious to see who nabbed noms for what used to be the big party that was highly entertaining to watch and slightly indicative of what would happen throughout the rest of awards season. What we’re still unsure of is what the telecast will consist of and if any of these nominees will bother to attend.
