About Carve Designs

Two decades ago, avid surfers Jennifer Hinton and Thayer Sylvester turned their  frustration with the lack of comfortable and curve-friendly women’s surfwear into Carve Designs. They started with the basics — board shorts and rashguards — in 2003, and now offer a range of beach and activewear with the same focus on function, fashion, and comfort. Given Hinton and Sylvester’s love and respect for the oceans, sustainability sits at the heart of Carve’s identity. 85 percent of Carve’s product line is made with sustainable materials like coconut balsa and recycled plastic, and Carve’s swimwear is made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. Each swimsuit is made from five bottles pulled straight from landfills, giving plastic waste a new life and keeping it out of the oceans.

Why we love them

While it was initially focused on women who spend lots of time on the water, Carve evolved to producing everyday apparel, which is what caught our eye here at KCM. We’re in love with the brand’s swimwear offerings — like flattering, stay-in-place one pieces and reversible suits you can mix and match — but its casual, breezy on-dry-land clothes are just as impressive. KCM’s Lisa is particularly fond of the Dylan Gauze Shirt, which is just the right weight and style for the beach, work, or lunch. Our colleague Alissa is loving her Kirby Cardigan, an ideal spring layering piece that works with any color shirt underneath.
