From citrusy scents to skin-soothing staples, here’s what I’m loving right now.

When it comes to skincare and beauty, I’ve tried just about everything, from fancy department store finds to drugstore gems that overdeliver. These days, my routine is all about keeping things simple, soothing, and effective, especially as my skin has gotten drier and more sensitive than ever. So I thought I’d share a few of the products I’m currently loving — the ones I reach for every morning, pack for every trip, and rave about to my daughters (even if they ignore me).

Cheryl Lee MD TrueCider Cleanser

Cheryl Lee MD

I swear by the TrueCider Sensitive Skin Face Wash from CLMD, founded by scientist/derm Dr. Cheryl Lee Eberting — I even take a little travel bottle with me when I’m going away. My skin is drier than ever, and it’s very sensitive, too. Luckily, this face wash is really gentle, but it still does the trick.

CLMD also makes shampoo and conditioner, but — especially in the summer — I need something even more deeply moisturizing. My go-to is a no-fuss drugstore gem: Pantene Miracle Rescue Deep Conditioner.

Malin + Goetz Peppermint Shampoo

Malin + Goetz

Speaking of hair, I’ve been obsessed lately with the Malin + Goetz Peppermint Shampoo. I like to add their Cilantro Daily Hair Conditioner into the mix, which makes me smell like I just walked through my herb garden.

Mario Badescu Vitamin C Serum

Mario Badescu

After the CLMD face wash, I use this Mario Badescu vitamin C serum. And once that sinks in, I apply my SPF: I’ve been using Senté Even Tone Mineral Sunscreen, which improves your skin tone and, of course, protects you from the sun.

Senté Dermal Repair UltraNourish

Dermstore

To lock in moisture, I also swear by Senté cream for my face: I’ve been hooked ever since my dermatologist gave me a free sample. It keeps my eczema flare-ups at bay and just makes my skin feel great.

Kiehl’s Creme de Corps

Sephora

I’ve given up on any product that promises to reduce crepiness — I’m not convinced that an effective one exists, unfortunately. But for my arms and legs, I do love Kiehl’s Creme de Corps. My friend Maureen had bottles of it in her bathroom when I was visiting, and I sampled it and immediately fell in love. (Maureen, I hope it’s OK that I took some home!)

Dyson AirWrap

Nordstrom

Meanwhile, I couldn’t survive without my Dyson AirWrap, which was a present from my hairdresser (who’s clearly not worried about this gadget stealing any of her business). You can dry your hair in sections, and it works so quickly. Plus, it’s so much easier to use than holding a round brush in one hand and a blowdryer in the other — and the results are much better, at least for a non-professional like me.

Henry Rose Mustang Sally Perfume

Henry Rose

I love citrus scents, so I’m partial to the Mustang Sally spray from Henry Rose, Michelle Pfeiffer’s clean fragrance company. (Relatedly, I was a big fan of Love’s Lemon perfume in the 70s, and of Jean Naté — can you tell how old I am?)

Essie Nail Polish

Amazon

I can’t believe it, but I finally stopped biting my nails. I’m sure I’ll revert back to my old habit in due time, but until then, I love having polish on my fingers. My current favorite summer polish is Essie’s It-Pearl, which is neutral enough to go with pretty much any outfit. (It might be sold out at the moment, but the Essie Fiji color is a fairly close dupe.) I think my daughters barely recognize my hands now.

Foot Rasp

Amazon

Summer means everyone seeing your bare feet, which can mean feeling pressure to keep them looking cute. I use this cheese grater-esque foot scraper to slough off any dead skin on my heels. Then I add a little of the Kiehl’s body cream and I’m ready to head to dinner.
