Melania Trump isn’t ashamed of her past work as a nude model — in fact, she embraces it (and apparently, the human form in general). On Wednesday, the ex-model took to social media to defend her more risqué career decisions as “a powerful means of self-expression.”

In a 45-second video set to dramatic symphony music, she opens by asking: “Why do I stand proudly behind my nude modeling work?” She then follows that up with what she believes to be the “more pressing question,” which is, “Why has the media chosen to scrutinize my celebration of the human form in a fashion photo shoot?”

“Are we no longer able to appreciate the beauty of the human body?” she continued.

She highlights that “throughout history, master artists have revered the human shape, evoking profound emotions and admiration.” But instead of featuring her own photos, she opted for well-known nude statues and artworks, including John Collier’s Lady Godiva.

“We should honor our bodies and embrace the timeless tradition of using art as a powerful means of self-expression,” she concludes.

While these comments might seem a little out of the blue, they’re part of the promotional push for her upcoming self-titled memoir, Melania, where she has vowed to “clarify the facts” about the media scrutiny she has faced over the years. Up until now, she hasn’t spoken out about her nude photoshoots, which resurfaced during Trump’s 2016 campaign. The New York Post published some racy photos of her at the time, reportedly taken back in 1996 and featured in a former French men’s magazine. One depicted Melania posing in nothing but high heels. The former president said he didn’t know her when these spicy photos were taken but brushed off the controversy by saying they were “very fashionable and common” in Europe.

A shot of Melania posing nude on Trump’s plane also started circulating right around that time. The photo, which was featured on British GQ’s cover in 2000, undoubtedly raised some eyebrows, though Trump is known to have a penchant for models — his previous ex-wives, Ivana Trump and Marla Maples, were also in the business.

Given the fact that she included this question in her book promo, it’s safe to assume she’s going to address her career choices and set the record straight in the memoir, which curious minds can pre-order now.
