What Makes Us Happy?

Happiness is one of those things that no one really seems to be able to define. But we all know we want it, whatever it is. So what is the ultimate key to happiness? Is it money? And if it is, are there ways we can make money without quitting our job or ever leaving the comfort of our own home?

Kristin Whiting is a former television producer who turned her passion for designer clothing into big bucks. And all she had to do was look in some very strange places.

“My daughter is going to go to college one sweater at a time.” -Kristin Whiting

Next, a story about very sweet success. What started as a Sunday tradition in Betty Hinton’s kitchen – mounds of delicious, buttery cakes and pies – has turned into mounds of cash. Norrinda Brown Hayat is a lawyer-turned-dessert maker, and while working alongside her mother, Linda, and grandmother, Betty, she’s been able to bring in some very sweet profits.

“What makes me happy is different from what makes you happy.” -Sonja Lyubomirsky

Is money the key to happiness? The answer isn’t as simple as you might expect. Michael Norton is a professor at the Harvard Business School and the author of the upcoming book, “Happy Money.”

“There’s not a magic number.” -Michael Norton
